You Me At Six - Save it for the Bedroom

This music video is a narrative based video and is set up as a reality TV show.  At the beginning of the music video the music that is playing is all happy and cheerful, and the first thing you see is of the host and behind him, the audience. The music makes it pretty obvious that it’s the opening to a show, and not to a song. The host walks and looks directly into the camera for a split second, clearly showing us that he is the host of his show because he’s wearing formal clothes, he's holding a piece of card and the people in the background are in normal clothes.

Once the show music dies down the host says “Welcome back” and then You me at Six’s song starts.  The sign saying “The Lazarus IronsidE show” clearly indicates that it’s a show. The L, I, E is in red, whereas all the other letters are in white – indicating the LIE show?

This could possibly be a show where people have to tell the truth and not lie? There's a quick middle shot of You Me At Six (YMAS)  singing backstage of the show.  Throughout the video there are fast camera shots of YMAS messing about and singing backstage. There are also captions at the bottom of the screen, and shows a quick close up of each individual band member, again, indicating throughout the video that this is a talk show.

From looking at the timinig of the cuts, I would say that they are approximatley 3 seconds between the band members and the host/audience. At 0:47 seconds into the music video the speed starts to increase dramatically.

I would say that there's definitley a comedy factor throughout the whole music video because of the band members dressing up as ladies, and some of the problems that are on screen, for example : “Is my son a necrophiliac?”

The camera shots are as if it’s filmed by the camera’s in the studio because it’s not as steady as a camera would be like if it were on a tripod, it’s more shaky and busy. Lightening in the music video is very bright, I would say it’s been edited/contrast has been turned up because the colours look very bold and colourful. There are constant middle shots of the audience, the host and the band constantly running throughout the video, again, keeping the whole ‘talk show’ theme running through the video.

The camera doesn’t really focus on one specific thing, a lot of stuff is happening and there’s a lot going on in the majority of the shots. I noticed that theres not a lot of editing throughout the video, however there is some use when one of the band members comes running on stage naked, as his behind is censored.

At 2:24 theres a camera shot of how things would look on a corner security camera, and the camera lens is less focused. It shows you the whole view of the backstage, and the lighting is very dimmed.

I also noticed that there is direct eye contact with band members when they sing towards the camera, allowing their fans to feel more engaged with the band members. There are also a lot of fast, long shots of when the band members crash into the boards. At 3:21 there’s use of slow-motion editing  for a split second of a middle shot of the host. The ending is very quick and shows a quick close up of the host looking worried, which then shows a close up of one of the band members with a smug smile on his face and then the screen goes black. I think that It’s a very fast and simple ending for such a fast and busy music video.
